Susanna “Sue” Mary (Pilon) Pendergraft

ESCANABA — Susanna ‘Sue’ Mary (Pilon) Pendergraft, 72, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Christian Park Health Care Center.

Sue was born June 4, 1947, to William and Mary (Nedeau) Pilon in Escanaba.

She graduated from Escanaba High School in 1965.

On Aug. 20, 1966, Sue married her high school sweetheart James Pendergraft at St. Joseph’s Church in Escanaba.

Sue started working in high school at Mel and Elmer’s Grocery store, which led her to a career of working with the public. She was one of the first cashiers at Wally United Foods than opened her own shop “Sue’s Plastercraft’s” in Escanaba where she combined her love of people and crafts. All this led her to owning and operating Breezy Point Bar in Ford River, Mich., for 16 years. Whether it was a birthday party, a Sunday afternoon football game, pool leagues, one of the Breezy Point Golf Tournament’s or just stopping by for a “Breezy Burger” people always had a good time. Sue was instrumental and enjoyed hosting the Delta County Jaycee Duck Races that were put on at Breezy until the success of the event outgrew the space and the participant’s safety were a concern on the highway. Sue enjoyed working and was still working at KMB Broadcasting part time as a receptionist.

Sue was an avid game player. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards (especially euchre and cribbage), bingo and most recently dominos with high school friends.

Sue is survived by two children, Tammy Pendergraft of Escanaba and Scott (Tricia) Pendergraft of Bark River; four grandchildren, Abigail Pendergraft of Royal Oak, Mich., and Scott Jr., Brooklyn, and Noah Pendergraft of Ford River; two sisters, Debbie (Neil) Martinson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jill (Todd) Calouette of Gladstone; father-in-law, Ivan “John” Pendergraft of Ford River; two sisters-in-law, Judith (Dale) Deloria of Ford River and Jayne (Bill) Church of Ford River; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
