Roberta (Newsy) Frances Swanson

She was born Roberta Frances LaFoille on July 23, 1935, in Escanaba, Mich., the oldest daughter of Harry and Ruth LaFoille. She attended St. Francis de Sales School and graduated from Manistique High School class of 1954.

Roberta was united in marriage to William Swanson on Oct. 27, 1956, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she was a lifelong member.

She enjoyed painting, gardening, reading, and playing cards. She was a member of the Bishop Baraga Circle. She was employed at First National Bank, State Savings Bank, and was owner/operator of LaFoille Vending Services until her retirement.

Roberta is survived by her husband William of 62 years, daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mitch Dalgleish; two grandsons, Derek and Jared; one sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Fred Hinkson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister and brother-in-law, Harriet and Scott Smiley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 330 Oak St., Manistique, on Saturday, June 8, at 12 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Ben Paris presiding. A visitation at the church will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the mass.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility.
