William James Tiglas

MANISTIQUE — William James Tiglas, 82, of Manistique, Mich., passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 13, 2019, at Woodland Meadows Assisted Living.

He was born on March 31, 1937, the son of George and Mercedes (Lasich) Tiglas. William attended St. Frances de Sales Catholic School until eighth grade when he completed his education at Manistique High School. After graduating, William enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1955-1957 before he was honorably discharged and began working as a master plumber in Manistique. He took great pride in the work he did and loved going to work each day.

William was a lifetime member of St. Francis de Sales Church. He always enjoyed his time at camp, feeding the deer, and hunting. He also loved watching his grandkids play sports and would travel all over just to watch them.

William is survived by his sons, Jim (Renee) Tiglas and David (Deb) Tiglas, both of Manistique; brother, Robert Tiglas of Freedom, Wis.; sister, Evelyn (Orville) Erickson of Manistique; life companion, Georgia Strable of Manistique; six grandchildren, BJ Tiglas, Brandy Brewster, Heather Burton, Brian Tiglas, Kyle Tiglas, and Jamie Tiglas; and 8 great-grandchildren: Dustin, Gwen, Brianna, Olivia, Josie, Emma, Josh, and Riley.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Popour; and brothers, Francis Tiglas, Dale Tiglas, and Thomas Tiglas.

Per the families request cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on May 11 at 11 a.m. at Hiawatha Cemetery with Tooter Barton officiating.
