Audrey Cleary

BISMARCK N.D. — Audrey Cleary, 88 of Bismarck, N.D., died Feb. 5, 2019, at St. Vincent Care Center, Bismarck. Audrey Marie Boucher Cleary was born June 1, 1930, in Menominee Mich. the oldest of seven children to Edmund and Laura (Mushynski) Boucher of Menominee and Escanaba.

She attended schools in Menominee graduating from Menominee High School in 1948. Audrey attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., graduating in 1952 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She was employed at St Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee as a labor and delivery nurse from 1952- 55.

On June 19, 1954, she married Dr. Joseph Cleary in Menominee and they moved to Bismarck in 1955. They were married for 58 years until Joe died in January of 2013. Through 64 years Audrey lived in Bismarck she was involved in many church and community organizations. She was active in Democratic politics for over 55 years elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives for numerous terms. In those years Social justice education and health care were primary concerns for Audrey. She will be sadly missed by her 11 children, 32 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and also her six surviving siblings; Wayne of Katy, Texas, Jerry and John of Escanaba, Lorna (Bill) Young, Lakewood Colo., Mary ( John) Connelly, Escanaba, and Jane Korpela of Forest Hill, Md. and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral was held Feb. 9, 2019 at the Cathedral of the Holy Sprit with interment in St. Mary’s cemetery both in Bismarck
