Robert Lee Whipple

He was born Dec. 11, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Mich., a son of the late Myron and Lillian (Wellman) Whipple,

Bob received his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1980. He worked at Tech for 32 years as a research scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during Vietnam. He was a member of Ranger Post 6165 VFW of South Range where he served as Post Quartermaster.

He was married to the former Diana Palonen on Oct. 21, 2000.

Bob is survived his wife, Diana “DeeDee” of South Range; his children, Robert Lee (Cindy) Whipple, Jr. and Darleen (Paul) Jensen; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Kathrine) Whipple; two nieces; two nephews; and several cousins.

Besides his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by a grandson, Gabriel.

A memorial service for Bob will be held in July of 2019.
