Robert D. Bintner

ESCANABA — Robert D. Bintner, 91, of 1219 N. 18th St., Escanaba, passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 28, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on Oct. 24, 1927, in Escanaba, the son of John and Hilda (Wangberg) Bintner. Robert grew up in Escanaba and was a 1945 graduate of Escanaba High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 20, 1946, after World War II and served his country until Robert was honorably discharged on May 14, 1947. Robert was employed by the Chicago North Western Railroad as a switchman for 46 years from 1944 until his retirement in 1990. He married the former Maureen Parker on June 2, 1956, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escanaba. Together, the couple celebrated 62 years of marriage and raised five children. Robert loved spending time with his family and making memories up at his camp, “The North Y.” He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed hunting. Robert was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba and the United Trainman’s Union.

Robert is survived by wife, Maureen of Escanaba; children, Bruce (Cindy) Bintner of Escanaba, Patty (Tom) Bruce of Escanaba, Linda Olson (Mike Waldsmith) of Bark River, Barb (Don) Kwarciany of Milton, Wis., and Dan Bintner of Escanaba; 13 grandchildren, Nicole Potokar, Lisa Knuth, Craig Bruce, Emily Bruce, Mark Bruce, Sarah Olson, Jennifer Olson, Drew Kwarciany, Nick Kwarciany, Eric Kwarciany, Taylor Bintner, Kelly Bintner, and Rachel Bintner; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Rennie Bintner; grandsons, Bobby and Josh Bintner; brother, Ward Bintner; and sisters, Mildred Engstrom, Bernice Larson, and Shirley Gold.

Private family visitation and funeral services will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba with Rev. Erik Heskin of Bethany Lutheran Church officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the conclusion of the funeral services in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba.
