Keith Harwood Wangberg

NEGAUNEE — Keith Harwood Wangberg, 89, of Croix St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, Sept. 22, 2018 at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone.

Keith was born April 9, 1929, in Negaunee to Fritz and Leona (Waters) Wangberg and graduated from Negaunee High School as the class president in 1948. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Marie Hill on Feb. 26, 1949. Keith owned and operated Wangberg Electric in Negaunee for many years, retiring in the mid 1990s.

Mr. Wangberg was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Negaunee; Teal Lake Masonic Lodge No. 202 where he earned the highest honor of 33rd Degree Mason; Ahmed Temple Shrine; and the Negaunee Elks. He was a selfless volunteer for numerous community events and organizations. In his free time, Keith enjoyed spending time at their camp on Johnson Lake with friends and family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Following retirement, Eleanor and Keith, or ‘Grandpa KeeKee’ as he was known by many, enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida. He also enjoyed spending time with the boys each year at the family deer camp.

Surviving are his daughter, Peggy (Dennis) Carlyon of Rapid River; grandchildren, Jason Carlyon of Negaunee and Kristina (Adam) Cole of Ypsilanti; great-granddaughter, Julia Cole; sister, Joyce Neely of Madison; sister-in-law, Susan LaRock of Rapid River; brother-in-law, William “Bula” Hill Jr. of Negaunee; and numerous special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Eleanor on June 8, 2018; and a brother, William ‘Bill’ (Ruth) Wangberg. Keith’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staffs at Lakeview Assisted Living and OSF Health and Hospice for their wonderful care provided.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at St. Johnn’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Jack Lenten officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m. at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall. Pallbearers will be Jason Carlyon, Sean and Kevin LaRock, Jim Bidlingmaier, Virgil Anderson and Bill Huot. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Keith’s memory to St. John’s Episcopal Church or the Class of 1948 Scholarship, C/O Negaunee High School.
