James R. Bucholtz

GLADSTONE, Mich. — James R. Bucholtz, 98, of Gladstone, Mich., passed away peacefully at home Friday morning, Aug. 31, 2018.

James was born in Gladstone, Mich., on Feb. 19, 1920, the son of Harold E. and Alice (Sullivan) Bucholtz. Jim served in the United States Army. He was always interested in carpentry and cars. He was especially proud of logging the timber he used to build his first home. He built the beautiful Westwood Motel in Marquette and operated it for nearly 25 years. Jim was employed by the Marquette Public Service garage as an auto body service technician. His love for antique cars and drafting design led him to a 40 year hobby. He embraced the restoring of nearly 10 antique cars.

Jim was respected for his knowledge, tenacity, and talented abilities in the restoration of antiques. His trophies were a slight measure of his talents.

In addition to his wife, Suzanne Bergeon-Bucholtz, James is survived by: son, James (Marilyn) Bucholtz of Marquette, Mich.; three daughters, Mary (Dean) Krieg of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Paulette (Tom) Ciociorka of Ossineke, Mich., and Judy (John) Davidson of Bradenton, Fla.; brother, William Bucholtz of Lubbock, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by: his first wife of 62 years and the mother of his children, Sophia Bucholtz; sister, Merrial; brother, John “Jack.”
