James G. Paquin

Jim was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Appleton, Wis., the son of Earl and Loretta (Trudell) Paquin. He was raised in Flat Rock and was a 1949 graduate of Escanaba High School. In January of 1952, Jim was inducted into the United States Army where he served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in January of 1954. Following his discharge, Jim returned home to Flat Rock and along with his brother-in-law, began a trucking company which later became known as LaBumbard Trucking. Jim eventually went to work with his father, Earl and brothers Frank and Art, at Paquin & Sons Sand and Gravel until his retirement.

On Nov. 3, 1962, Jim was united in marriage with Virginia (Anderson) Massard at Holy Family Church. They had one daughter Candy (Paquin) Nelson. Together the couple made their home in Flat Rock with Candy and Christine (Massard) Clark.

Throughout the years, Jim enjoyed hunting with family. In earlier years, he enjoyed bowling and square dancing and was a member of the Delta County Merry Mixers Square Dance Club. He raced snowmobiles and continued riding well into his 70’s despite losing his arm during a work accident in his early 40s. He also enjoyed playing smear at Holy Family Church, four wheeling, going to the casino, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include: daughters, Christine (David) Clark and Candy (Joe) Nelson; sister, Theresa Lippens; brother, Art Paquin; sister-in-law, Eva Paquin; grandchildren, Christopher Clark, Kimberly (Tom) Boetger and Chris Nelson; great-grandchildren, Ethan Denesha, Mehgan Mangum and Anna Gagnon. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and Jim’s very special companion cat, Teaco.

In addition to his parents, Earl and Loretta, his beloved wife Virginia, and grandson Joshua Clark, Jim was preceded in death by: sister, Rita LaBumbard

Jim’s family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 to 5:45 p.m. at Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites will follow visiting hours on Sunday at 5:45 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71 officiating. Vigil prayers will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Sunday with Rev. Fr. Francis Dobrzenski of Holy Family Church officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock with Rev. Fr. Francis Dobrzenski presiding. Luncheon will follow in the Holy Family Parish Hall. Jim will be laid to rest at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to St. Vincent De Paul or the Delta Animal Shelter.
