Lois Jane Miller

ESCANABA — Lois Jane Miller, 89, of 1300 N. 16th St., Escanaba, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018, at U.P. Health System – Marquette. She was born on Feb. 23, 1929, in Escanaba, the daughter of Tyler and Mabel (Johnson) Way. Lois grew up in Wells and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1946. Following graduation, Lois worked for Dr. Roy Johnson’s office and later at King Optical. The former Lois Jane Way married George Miller on Dec. 22, 1953, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1996. Together, the couple shared 42 years of marriage and raised five children. Lois loved working with children and owned and operated Grandma Lois’ Day Care Center in Escanaba from 1986 to 1997. She then worked for the U.S. Forest Service for a few years. Lois was currently employed at Central U.P. Industrial Supply in Escanaba. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and cooking and baking. Family meant the world to Lois and she cherished all of the family gatherings over the years. Lois was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba.

Lois J. Miller is survived by sons, Dr. Richard (Gwen) Miller of Milwaukee, Wis., Steven (Suzanne) Miller of Escanaba, and John Miller of Escanaba; daughters, Terry (John) Frankenstein of Manistique, and Jennifer (Jim) Lauson of Appleton, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Tyler (Loan) Frankenstein, Stacey (Anthony) Markon, Todd (Kathleen) Miller, Jamie (Ben) Richards, Ashley (Mo) Cain, Quinton Miller, Matthew Miller, Joshua (Paula) Miller, Riley Hughson, Olivia Hughson, and Emily Hughson; six great-grandchildren, Avalina, Melvin, Claira, Eleanor Jane, Maxwell, and Aria; brothers, Jack (Ethelgine) Way of Wells, Tom (Pat) Way of Wells, and Clinton (Cheryl) Way of Milwaukee, Wis.; sisters, Mary Lou Dufour of Slinger, Wis., Carol (George) Noel of Soo Hill, Judy (Jim) Schwartz of Escanaba, Nancy (Bruce) Lewis of Escanaba, and Lynn Liebel of Escanaba; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by granddaughter, Lauren Hughson, and three brothers, Robert Way, Richard Way, and James Way.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Lois will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba with Rev. Chris Johnson officiating. A luncheon will be served afterward in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials please be directed to Christ the King Lutheran Church.
