Alfred “Al” E. Scherer Jr.

ESCANABA — Alfred “Al” E. ­Scherer Jr. 59, of Escanaba, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at his home of natural ­causes.

Al was born in Escanaba on May 31, 1958, the son of Alfred and Marian (Gerou) Scherer. He graduated from Escanaba High School and earned an associate’s degree from Bay College.

He was self-employed as a truck driver.

Al enjoyed gardening, fishing and participating in the PWT, NAWA and MWC Walleye Tournaments and was an avid hunter.

Al is survived by his mother, Marian of Escanaba; ­daughter, Christine Scherer of Menominee, Mich.; ­grandchildren, Allison Scherer, Jeffrey Schultz Jr. and Savannah Schultz; great-granddaughter, Violet Scherer; siblings, Donald (Bev) Nault of Escanaba, Donna Milis of Kaukauna, Wis., Darwin (Louise) Nault of Gladstone and Dale (Chris) Nault of Rapid River; special friend, Lori Schinderle of Iron Mountain; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alfred was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Sr. and brother, Charles Scherer.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to cousin, Betty Lou Seger for all of her help with the family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service celebrating the life of Al will follow at 4 p.m. with Major Ralph Hansen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his mother, Marian Scherer, c/o Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th Street, Escanaba, MI 49829 to assist with expenses.

Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Scherer family.
