Michael S. Johnson

BOISE, Idaho — Michael S. Johnson, 49, of Boise, Idaho, formerly of Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at home following a lengthy illness. Michael was born on May 20, 1968, and grew up in Escanaba, Mich. He was the son of Ralph and the late Barbara (VanEffen) Johnson. He graduated from Escanaba Area High School in 1986.

Following his graduation from Northern Michigan University, Michael started his career at Boise Cascade. While living in Boise, he met Sheri Hopt. They married in 1998 and settled in Appleton, Wis., where they started a family and he enjoyed a successful IT career. The family recently returned to Boise. Michael enjoyed skiing, NASCAR, his pets, and attending his children’s baseball, soccer, and dance activities. To know Michael was to love him. He made everyone feel special and would, literally, give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.

In addition to his wife, Sheri, Michael also leaves behind three children, McKenna, Nathan, and Logan of Boise, Idaho; his father, Ralph Johnson of Escanaba; grandpa, Kermit (Ar) Johnson of Escanaba; a sister, Michelle (Dennis) Dallaire of Fitchburg, Mass.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Sally Hopt; brother-in-law, John (Marianne); and sister-in-law, Michelle Keller.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Memorial services celebrating Michael’s life will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. A luncheon will be served afterward in the church fellowship hall. A scholarship fund has been set up for the three Johnson children. Memorials may be directed to the Michael S. Johnson Donation Fund or forwarded to any family member.
