Lester D. ‘Hummer’ Millette

ESCANABA — Lester D. “Hummer” Millette, 79, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Lester was born in Escanaba on Jan. 21, 1939, son of Edmund and Florence (Dagenais) Millette. He was a lifelong resident of Escanaba, graduating from Escanaba High School.

He worked for Harnischfeger until 1982 when he went to work for Independent Roofing until retiring in 1984.

Lester was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church where he was very active in his younger years.

On Dec. 2, 1961, Les married the love of his life, Elsie “Mary” Lou Jacques, at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. Together they celebrated 56 years of marriage and raised four children.

He loved to golf and played and coached baseball for many years. He also enjoying bowling, playing cards and woodworking projects.

Among survivors are his wife, Mary Lou and four children, Anthony (Traci), Timothy (Jennifer Hahn) and Todd (Julie) of Escanaba and Marcia (Beau) Boden of Wells; grandchildren, Kelsey, Kirk, Tyler, Casey, Cali, Carter, Jaci, Jordan, Jaydeen, Mallory, Miranda and Mariah; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Aslan, Vayda, Silas, Elliott, Joseph and Von; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Edward “Barney” Millette, Elmer “Mur” Millette, Raymond Kezzetti and Mary Jane Hayon.

Services will be on Friday, Feb. 16, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. The visitation will follow at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba from 3 to 6 p.m. A gathering will take place at the Elks Lodge 354 following the visitation.
