Anthony John Schomin Jr.

Tony was born May 24, 1950, in Escanaba, to Anthony “Ben” and Patricia (Wagner) Schomin Sr.

Tony was a proud 1968 graduate of Holy Name High School. He graduated from Northern Michigan University, in 1972, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later in his career he furthered his education by receiving his Master’s Degree in Public Administration on Aug. 6, 1991.

Tony was a middle school teacher in Manistique from 1972 to 1977. During that time, he met and married his wife Donna. Tony and Donna moved to Escanaba in 1977 where they made their home and raised their family. Tony was employed by the City of Escanaba as the Parks and Recreation Director from 1977 to 2005. After his retirement from the city, Tony was a business development consultant for AECOM Engineering for seven years.

During his retirement years, Tony loved going to camp, hunting and golfing. He also loved being a “Cart Boy” at Sweetgrass Golf Course. He will always be remembered by family and friends for his infectious laugh.

In addition to his loving wife Donna, Tony is survived by son, Ben (Libby) Schomin of Carlsbad, Calif.; brothers, Tim Schomin of Rockwall, TX, Peter (Becky) Schomin of Kaukauna, Wis.; sisters, Vicki (Dan) Mullin of Escanaba, Kris (Scott) Shield of Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Cade, Charlie and Casey Schomin; mother-in-law, Audrey Martin; brother-in-law, Tim Martin of Staten Island, N.Y.

Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony “Ben” Sr. and Patricia, father-in-law, Don Martin and sister-in-law, Robin Diane Schomin.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visiting hours, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone, with Rev. Fr. Brian Gerber officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Parish Hall. Tony will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, Tony’s family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Schomin family for an education fund to be established at a later date. Envelopes will be available throughout visiting hours.
