Judith Anne ‘Judy’ ‘Johnyamyendunkwi’ Feathers

ESCANABA, Mich. — Judith Anne “Judy” “Johnyamyendunkwi” Feathers, 70, of Escanaba, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Judy was born Oct. 15, 1947, in Nahma, Mich., the daughter of Henry J. and Doris (Nedeau) Feathers and was raised in the Nahma/ St. Jacques area. She attended Harbor Springs Boarding School. Following graduation, she moved to Minnesota and later to Milwaukee where she attended college. Judy worked in various jobs for the federal government. She retired from the U.S. Forest Service where she was an executive secretary for the Hiawatha National Forest Service office.

Judy was a member of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. She had a love for country music and playing cribbage. Her hobbies included collecting Minions and Pillsbury Dough Boys. She enjoyed learning the native language and traditions. Judy had a great gift to gab and she was not afraid to voice her opinions to family and friends. But most important to her was her family, especially her grandchildren. She thought of them often.

Survivors include her companion of 24 years, Allan Kesick of Escanaba; sons, Brent (Lisa) Feathers and their daughter, Brittany Feathers of Georgetown, Ind., Derek (Shelli) Feathers and their son, Zack Feathers of Bark River, Mich.; daughter, Keri Feathers and her son, Sterling of Iron Mountain, Mich.: brothers, Richard (Joyce) Feathers of Gladstone, Mark (Wendy) Feathers of Gladstone, David Feathers of Wilson, Glenn Clabots of Manistique; sisters, Laura (Bill) Bryant of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Rhea Lindstrom of Escanaba. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Her father, Henry Feathers, mother, Doris Clabots and sisters, Brenda Clabots and Arlene Williams, preceded Judy in death.

Judy’s family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.
