Donald Paul Scott

ESCANABA — Donald Paul Scott, “Scotty,” 90, of Escanaba, passed away early Saturday morning, Jan. 20, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Scotty was born in Escanaba on Jan. 3, 1928, son of Chester and Esther (Jensen) Scott. He was a life-long resident of Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1946. While in high school, Scotty excelled in athletics, receiving numerous awards and honors in football, basketball and baseball.

After high school, Scotty served in the Army. He then attended Michigan State College where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1952. After graduation, he returned to Escanaba and began his lifelong career at DeGrand Oil Company, retiring in 1999.

On Sept. 13, 1958, Scotty married Dorothy “Tookie” DeGrand at St. Joseph’s Church in Escanaba. Together they celebrated 59 years of marriage and raised their six children.

Scotty was an avid Packer, Eskymo and Spartan fan. He received the most enjoyment attending and supporting his children and grandchildren at their many activities. He was an original season ticket holder at Lambeau Field and his children proudly carry on that tradition. He also enjoyed bowling and playing a good round of golf.

He was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish, the Escanaba Country Club, and the Escanaba Elks Lodge 354 where he was a life member. Scotty was an active member of the Escanaba Lions Club and served as secretary/treasurer for over 40 years. He was also a founding member of the Escanaba Quarterback Club.

Scotty is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Tookie”; children, Mary Sue (Patrick) Thompson of Bartlett, Ill., Kathy (Jeff) Klann of Milwaukee, Wis., Barb Scott of Escanaba, Karen (Chris) Blazek of Green Bay, Wis., Mike Scott of Escanaba and Steve (Brenda) Scott of Escanaba; grandchildren, Tony, Todd (Alicia) and Michelle Scott, Katie Scott and Jordan Thompson, Connor and Logan Blazek, Cierra, Kamrie, Brynlee, Lucan and Sterling Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba from 1 to 4 p.m. The Elks memorial service will be at 1 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 4:30 at St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Parish with Rev. Eric Olson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Holy Name Staff Support Endowment or the Escanaba Lions Club.

The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staffs at OSF St. Francis Hospital, Christian Park Village, and OSF Hospice Care for their tremendous care and support.

Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery spring 2018.
