Joan Sogard

ESCANABA — Joan Sogard, 83, of Escanaba, Mich., passed away peacefully on Tuesday Dec. 26, 2017, due to complications with Alzheimer’s disease. Our deepest gratitude to family, friends, and the staff at Cedar Hill (Bark River) and Brookridge Heights Assisted Living in Marquette for helping through this difficult time.

Joan was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Escanaba, the daughter of Joseph and Mina (Kaufman) LaCrosse. Loving memories will be cherished by her daughter, Stephanie (Scott) of Geneva, Ill., and her sons Eric (Deb) of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Ted, of Escanaba, Mich., and Rob (Carol) of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren, Stuart (Stefanie), Sherlyn (Kevin), Kiah, and Amelia; and great-grandchildren, Lucas, William, Owen, Eli, and Kylan; and her dogs, Faye and Joey.

Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore ‘Ted’ Sogard, on May 1, 2011.

Joan graciously shared her love for family. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was always patient and caring. She shared her love for others through her work as an occupational therapist, helping newborn to three-year-old children with severe disabilities for over 20 years. In retirement, Joan continued her service to others as a Deacon with the First Presbyterian Church.

Joan’s family will be receive friends on Friday, Jan. 5, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 819 1st Ave S., Escanaba, Mich.., from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Services celebrating Joan’s life will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by a light luncheon.
