RAPID RIVER — Janis W. Seymour, age 83, of 8316 41.5 Road in Rapid River (North Delta), passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 at U.P. Health System – Marquette. She was born on Nov. 11, 1933 in Escanaba, the daughter of Robert and Esther (Turnwall) Kositzke.

Janis grew up in Escanaba where she also attended school. The former Janis Kositzke married Glenn M. Seymour on Nov. 24, 1951 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Escanaba, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 2007. Together, the couple shared 55 years of marriage and raised four children.

Janis loved being a homemaker, caring for her husband and children. She was known for her homemade bread and her chicken noodle soup. Family meant the world to Janis and were her best friends. She loved knowing they were always there for each other. Janis saw beauty in the little things, especially growing flowers and touring the U.P. to see the beautiful colors in the fall. She enjoyed bird watching, working on puzzles, and reading. Janis was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Trenary, where she was strong in her faith.

Janis W. Seymour is survived by daughters, Cindy (Mark) Essenburg of Trenary, and Glenna Ashley of Trenary; sons, Thomas Seymour of Wetmore, and Timothy (Lilly) Seymour of Rochester Hills, Mich.; grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Viau, Christopher Seymour, Matthew (Sarah) Seymour, Marcus Seymour, and Mackenzie Seymour; step-grandchildren, Nikki and Ashley; five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ian, Ella, Delilah, and Hunter; sister, June Tulys of Cornell; brother-in-law, Bill Pinar of Ford River; sister-in-law, Pat Kositzke of Indiana; and German Shepherd, Ben.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janis was preceded in death by brothers, James Kositzke and Robert Kositzke; and sisters, Audrey Pinar and Doris DeGrand.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday, Sept. 18 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Trenary. Funeral services celebrating the life of Janis will follow at 12 p.m., Monday, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Vandannoor and Father Emmett Norden officiating. Burial will take place in Mathias Twp. Cemetery. A luncheon will be served following the graveside service in St. Rita’s Fellowship Hall.
