John Gerard Frankovich

ISABELLA — John Gerard Frankovich, 84, of 14588 24th Road, Rapid River (Isabella), Mich., passed away on March 25, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 11, 1932, in Manistique, Mich., the son of Nick and Frances Frankovich and attended Manistique area schools. He was a graduate of Manistique High School. He later served in the U.S. Army and was active during the Korean War.

On March 2, 1957, he married the former Kathleen M. Herbert in Nahma. They made their home and raised their family in Isabella.

He was employed as a seafarer on the on the Great Lakes for many years before his retirement.

John was a longtime member of the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Nahma.

He not only had a career as a seafarer, but enjoyed raising beef cows as a hobby during his free time. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, all of whom he loved very much.

John is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Frankovich of Rapid River (Isabella); his sons, Edward Frankovich of Cooks, Jeff (Tammy) Frankovich of Isabella, Alan (Tonya) Frankovich of Manistique, Timothy Frankovich of Isabella and Todd (Billie) Frankovich of Isabella; brothers, Paul Frankovich of Manistique, James (Laurie) Frankovich of Highland, Mich., and Joseph (Beverly) Frankovich of Great Falls, Mont.; sisters, Angela Cragan of Orlando, Fla., Clara (Dick) Grall of Rockford, Ill., Barbara Smith of Ridgeway, Missouri and Mary (Wayne) Gonder of Highland, Mich.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Frankovich; brother, Nick Frankovich; sister, Phyllis Wolfe; niece, Mary Crosley; and his nephew, Mike Frankovich.

Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 29, at St. Andrew’s Church in Nahma. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at the church with Fr. Mariusz Siehart officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date in the moss Lake Cemetery at Isabella.

The Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique is assisting the family with the arrangements.
