Virginia Mae Krause

ESCANABA – Virginia Mae Krause, 90, of Escanaba, passed away on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Mid Michigan Health Center in Midland.

Virginia was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Flint, Mich., the daughter of Peter and Clara (Longhurst) Groleau. During World War II, Virginia worked for a company that made airplane parts. On Nov. 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to Floyd Krause. They were married for over 65 years when Floyd preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 2011. Virginia was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and served on the Ladies Guild for many years. Virginia found great happiness in helping others whether it be volunteering at Church or the Bishop Noa Home, inviting residents from the Sheltered Workshop to her home, or taking the time to make each of her family or extended family feel special. She lived her faith every day and the love she had for her family gave her so much joy. She will always be remembered for her smile and laughter and the kindness she showed to everyone.

Virginia is survived by five sons, Greg (Linda) of Mattawan, Mich., Brian (Jean) of Midland, Mich., Gerard of Humble, Texas, Joel (Karlene) of Holland, Mich., and Kevin (Cheryl) of Cincinnati; one daughter, Karen (Tim) Hughes of Norton, Va.; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Rosa Lee) Groleau of Sallisaw, Okla.; two sisters, Laura Trotter of Gladstone and Dolly (John) Enright of Milwaukee, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews, many who remember her as their favorite aunt.

Including her husband, Floyd, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Elmer, Edward, Robert and Jack Groleau and a half sister, Eleanore Mattson.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. A Vincentian Prayer Service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Escanaba with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will be served following the services in the church fellowship hall. Virginia will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
