Victor ‘Fred’ LaCosse

ROCK – Victor “Fred” LaCosse, 63, of Rock, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Victor was born May 10, 1950, in Manistique. He was raised in Perkins by Wilfred and Margaret (Johnson) LaCosse and graduated from the Perkins High School. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Kay Swanson on Dec. 6, 1969, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Perkins.

Victor loved to be in the woods and was a self-employed logger. He began logging with his father and eventually his own children joined him in the woods. He enjoyed spending time at his camp on Corner Lake, fishing and hunting. During one of his hunting trips his buddies branded him with the nickname, “Fred Bear.” Victor was also a tinkerer, a motivator and enjoyed “Spinning a nickel.” He most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandson and his beloved dog, Diesel.

Victor is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn of Rock; two sons, Allen (Michelle) LaCosse of Rock and Kevin (Jodi) LaCosse of Rock; his daughter, Brenda (Greg) Bennetts of Escanaba; six grandchildren, Victor (Leesa) LaCosse, A.J. LaCosse, McKenna LaCosse, Ethan Bennetts, Cole Bennetts and Jordan Bennetts; his great-grandson, Colton LaCosse; a brother, Melvin (Donna) LaCosse of Cornell; a sister, Bonnie Phalen of Escanaba; numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Jean Norden of Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David LaCosse; and his Uncle Emil LaCosse.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Rock. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kris Ertl officiating. A luncheon will be served in the fellowship hall following the services. Victor will be laid to rest in the Perkins Cemetery.
