DATA Bus expands medical transport program
ESCANABA — The Delta Area Transit Authority aims to bridge transportation gaps in Delta County and surrounding areas by expanding its Non-Emergency Medical Transportation services.
This program helps individuals safely and reliably get to medical appointments, wellness activities and other essential destinations.
“Reliable transportation shouldn’t be a barrier to good health or independence,” said Amy Fudala, mobility manager at Delta Area Transit and Schoolcraft County Transit authorities. “We’re working to make sure everyone can get where they need to go.”
DATA Bus’ NEMT services aid those needing better access to health care and essential community resources who may not have other transportation options. They help riders reach medical and therapy appointments; pharmacies or wellness programs; and support services, such as job interviews, grocery trips or various community resources.
DATA’s Non-Emergency Medical Transportation service is available to anyone needing reliable transportation to health care or wellness-related appointments. Passengers do not need to live in Delta County to ride.
Some insurance providers, such as Upper Peninsula Health Plan, do cover NEMT trips. Riders are encouraged to contact their insurance provider to confirm coverage for non-emergency medical transportation, which may help reduce out-of-pocket costs.
Even if insurance coverage isn’t available, riders should still contact DATA Bus to arrange affordable transportation and discuss ride options.

DATA Bus also offers on-demand service and a mobile app, making it easier for riders to book, track and manage their trips.
