New virus cases slowing dramatically

ESCANABA — Local health officials Monday showed only one more confirmed COVID-19 positive in the area, in Delta County.

The Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website otherwise had no changes to its figures for the region since its last update Friday.

As of Monday, Delta County has had 3,349 confirmed positives, 718 probable cases and 94 deaths, according to PHDMC. Menominee County has 1,798 confirmed positives, 330 probable and 40 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Monday had Delta County’s new case, plus one in Dickinson County as the only new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since its last report Saturday.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 20,047 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 438 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 226 confirmed cases and 254 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 195 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 354 confirmed cases and 85 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 421 confirmed, 61 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 457 confirmed cases and 256 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 691 confirmed cases, 125 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 983 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 43 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,043 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 23 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,085 confirmed cases and 1,410 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,794 confirmed cases, 328 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,408 confirmed cases and 339 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,528 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,343 confirmed cases and 713 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,251 confirmed cases, 821 probable and 61 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday posted 338 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since its last update Saturday for a total to date of 892,469. The state Monday had eight new deaths attributed to the virus over the two-day period to reach 19,548.
