Woman bound over in case related to fatal shooting

MANISTIQUE — A Manistique woman was recently bound over on a pair of felony counts related to a fatal shooting in Cooks.

The Michigan State Police Manistique Outpost stated Alyssa Jean Arnold, 20, of Manistique, was bound over in the 93rd District Court of Schoolcraft County on Wednesday, July 8. She had been arraigned on Monday, June 22 and was charged with harboring a fugitive.

Arnold’s boyfriend — Trevor Lee Gault, 33 — was arraigned the same day and was charged with assault with intent to murder and felony firearms. Bond for Gault had been set at $5 million cash, and bond for Arnold had been set at $500,000.

Arnold was bound over on two felony counts: a count of harboring a fugitive, punishable by up to four years in prison; and a count of aiding and abetting after the commission of a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison. The case will be set for trial in the 11th Circuit Court.

The shooting in question took place on the evening of June 17. The victim — Douglas Orr, 55, of Cooks — ultimately died of his injuries on Sunday, June 28. As a result, the charges against Gault are under review.
