COOKS — A Cooks man who was shot June 17 died of his injuries Sunday. The alleged shooter remains behind bars.

In a press release issued by the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post Wednesday, the victim was identified as Douglas Orr, 55, of Cooks.

The shooting that ultimately resulted in Orr’s death took place on the evening of June 17. Orr was airlifted to Marquette for treatment after troopers from the Gladstone Post responded to the incident at a home in Cooks.

Orr died Sunday evening, 10 days after he was initially injured.

On June 19, the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post and Manistique Outpost sought the whereabouts of suspect Trevor Lee Gault, 33, and his girlfriend Alyssa Jean Arnold, 20. Gault had an active felony warrant for his arrest for assault with intent to murder from the shooting.

The following day, Gault and Arnold were taken into custody without incident and were lodged at Schoolcraft County Jail.

Gault was arraigned at the 93rd District Court on Monday, June 22 and was initially charged with assault with intent to murder and felony firearms. Arnold was arraigned the same day and was charged with harboring a fugitive.

A probable cause hearing for Gault took place Wednesday, according to the Schoolcraft County Prosecutor’s Office. Further information on the hearing was unavailable as of Wednesday afternoon. The charges against Gault are under review. In the Gladstone Post’s press release, it was stated that the charges will be modified by Schoolcraft County Prosecutor Tim Noble to reflect Orr’s death.

Bond for Gault was set at $5 million cash and bond for Arnold was set at $500,000 during their arraignments.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing and police are actively seeking information related to the shooting.
