Menominee supports 911, library millages

MENOMINEE — Although the focus of Tuesday’s election was primarily on presidential candidates, Menominee County voters also chose to support the 911 and Central Dispatch services and the county’s library by authorizing millage proposals Tuesday.

The 911 emergency dispatch services proposal, which was supported by 68 percent of votes (2,653 votes), will assess up to 0.625 mills (63 cents per $1,000 of taxable value) on all taxable property within the county for the next five years from 2020 to 2024. 32 percent of votes cast in the election (1,255 votes) were cast against the proposal.

The millage will raise an estimated $499,303 for the Menominee County 911 Emergency telephone answering and dispatch system purposes in 2020. In accordance with state law, a portion of the millage may be disbursed to the City of Menominee Downtown Development Authority and Brownfield Development Authority.

The Menominee County Library proposal, which was supported by 61 percent of votes (2,391 of votes), will assess up to 0.375 mills (38 cents per $1,000 of taxable value) on all taxable property within the county for the next five years from 2020 to 2024. 39 percent of votes cast (1,525 votes) were cast against the proposal.

The millage will raise an estimated $299,581 for the Menominee County Library in 2020. In accordance with state law, a portion of the millage may be disbursed to the City of Menominee Downtown Development Authority and Brownfield Development Authority.
