WELLS TOWNSHIP — A home in Wells Township was significantly damaged in a structure fire Saturday.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, Escanaba Public Safety responded to 4834 16.5 Lane in Wells Township at 5:45 p.m., where smoke in a residence had been reported. No one was inside the house when officers arrived.

Officers entered the home’s front door and noted the building was filled with light smoke. In the home’s basement, they found where the fire had been burning. It had already burnt itself off before they arrived.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. However, the home sustained heavy damage from smoke and fire and some damage from water in the incident.
