ESCANABA — A recount of votes cast in this month’s Escanaba City Council race found no significant changes to vote totals. The recount took place at Escanaba City Hall Tuesday.

As a result of the recount, Ronald Beauchamp and Tyler DuBord each picked up a single vote. Delta County Clerk Nancy Przewrocki said these votes were not originally recorded because the absentee ballot they were cast on was marked with a red pen.

“The machine can’t read red ink,” she said.

Ultimately, DuBord’s vote total was increased to 1,114 votes and Beauchamp’s total was increased to 977 votes. Karen Moore and Michael Sattem’s vote totals — 1,147 votes and 735 votes, respectively — remained unchanged.

Przewrocki said she enjoys recounts.

“It … verifies the accuracy of our voting equipment and the fact our election workers are doing a good job on election day,” she said.
