New council members in Escanaba

ESCANABA — Escanaba officially has a new city council following a reorganizational meeting Monday.

Joining the council were Tyler Dubord and Karen Moore, who were elected on Nov. 5 to fill the two seats formerly held by Ron Beauchamp and Mike Sattem. Following their oath of office, the new council members stepped right into their new positions by voting on a series of appointments and role selections.

The first position to be selected was that of the city’s mayor. Marc Tall was nominated to stay in the position by Council Member Ralph Blasier, who was supported by Council Member Peggy O’Connell. No other nominations were made, and the council approved Tall for the position unanimously.

Next came the role of mayor pro tem, which was most recently held by Beauchamp. O’Connell was nominated for the position by Blasier with the support of Moore. The nomination was uncontested.

Tall was then appointed with the support of the council to two positions that muct be filled by the city’s mayor: a seat on the Board of Review and a seat on the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority.

Tall then made a series of appointments for other board and commission liaison assignments. He appointed Moore to the Recreation Board, the Historic Commission, and the Harbor Advisory Board. Dubord was appointed to the Public Safety Retirement Board, Library Trustees, and the Traffic Safety Commission. O’Connell was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Housing Commission, the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and the Loan Administration Board. Blasier was appointed to the Electric Board, to oversee the Planning Commission, and to continue as the city’s representative to the Delta Solid Waste Management Authority.

Tall appointed himself as the city’s representative to the 9-1-1 Authority.
