Sav-Mor break-in case sent to circuit court

ESCANABA — A man charged with a breaking and entering at Sav-Mor IGA in Escanaba was bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court recently.

Anthony Gregory Shalifoe, 20, of N15197 Pine Drive, Wilson, was bound over on one count of breaking and entering – a building with intent, a 10-year felony.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Thursday, Aug. 22.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, Shalifoe allegedly broke into Sav-Mor IGA, located at 306 Stephenson Ave., before it opened. Photos of a suspect in the burglary, captured from video taken by the store’s surveillance cameras, were posted by Escanaba Public Safety.

On Friday, Aug. 23, officers received tips from the posting — some of which identified the suspect. In response to these tips, investigators executed a search warrant at an upper apartment in the 200 block of North 18th Street; there, they found stolen property and evidence from the Sav-Mor incident.

After the search warrant was executed, Shalifoe turned himself in to Public Safety. He was lodged at the Delta County Correctional Facility on a $10,000 cash bond.

During his arraignment on Aug. 26, his bond increased to $20,000 cash or surety.

Shalifoe remains lodged in jail.
