GLOW run aims to help children

ESCANABA — Ludington Park will be glowing with runners and walkers participating in the first ever GLOW Family Fun Run/Walk and 5K Friday night. The event will be held between 8 and 11 p.m. by the Karas Memorial Bandshell.

To enter the event, individual participants are asked to bring one or more pairs of new shoes for a child. Families participating are asked to bring two or more pairs. The goal is to provide children in the community with a pair of new shoes for school. The shoes will be distributed by the sponsor of the race, Mission of Hope Delta County, during an event on Aug. 24, at the U.P. State Fairgrounds, Mission of Hope and One Church Event. To find out more about the Mission of Hope and One Church Event, go online to www.missionofhope906.com.

The GLOW Family Fun Run/Walk and 5K has three divisions — the competitive running event, walkers of the 5K and walkers in the one mile. Groups will leave the bandshell area at different times to start their portion of the run/walk. At 9:45 p.m., the competitive race begins. Individuals will not be given beacons to wear to track their times, but a timer will be available. The 5K walk starts at 9:50 p.m. and the one mile walk will kick off at 9:55 p.m. Each route will be clearly marked.

The night will finish with a celebration, thank you and group photo.

Each participant of the run/walk will receive one glow necklace when signing in between 8 and 9:30 p.m. Additional glow items will be available for purchase before the event begins. T-shirts are available for purchase at the email address missionofhope906@gmail.com, to place an order for a t-shift and provide sizes. All proceeds will go to Mission of Hope Delta County to purchase additional shoes for children.
