Community cookout event set for Saturday

ESCANABA — The City of Escanaba along with Engineered Machined Products and the Peninsula Federal Credit Union are sponsoring an event called “Pump Up The Park and Community Cookout” this Saturday, June 22. It will be a fun day of community, music, games, food and drink at the Escanaba Municipal Dock from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Everyone attending the community cookout will receive a free hot dog, potato chips and bottled water from the City of Escanaba Recreation Department. Hundreds of hot dogs have been donated by Frapp’s Meat Market, a new business in Escanaba.

“To serve hundreds of people in a timely fashion, this (hot dog) is a great idea,” said Recreation Director Kim Peterson.

A.C.A. Jumps will bring their inflatable houses all the way from Iron Mountain. Covering the dock area A.C.A. Jumps will provide two bounce houses, a 14-foot slide, a 40-foot obstacle course, an inflatable football toss, an inflatable soccer game, two frame games — one football and the other game called “Penguin Fish Fling” — and Slam Dunk, a basketball-themed game.

“This is going to be a great Saturday afternoon for families to come and enjoy a free event and have fun,” said Peterson.

The event is free to the public. It is a way to let citizens know they are appreciated according to Peterson.

The Escanaba Municipal Dock is located at 410 Ludington St. If there is a threat of inclement weather, the event will stay at the dock, but move to Sunday, June 23.
