Man killed in collision with semi

FORD RIVER — An Escanaba man died after a traffic accident that shut down a portion of M-35 for several hours Thursday. Dustin Weigal, 35, of Escanaba was killed in the crash.

According to the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a car and a semi on M-35 South between Breezy Point and the Ford River at 9:52 a.m.

The passenger car driven by Weigal was traveling northbound on M-35 just south of Breezy Point when it went into the southbound lane. Weigal’s car collided head-on with a southbound semi, driven by Donald Jagoditsh, 52, of Wausau, Wis.

Weigal was pronounced dead at the scene and was extracted from his vehicle using the Jaws of Life.

The crash remains under investigation.

Part of M-35 was closed until 2:20 p.m. because of the accident.

Assisting with the crash scene and investigation were the Michigan State Police, Escanaba Public Safety, Ford River Fire and EMS, Rampart EMS, Delta County Road Commission and Gene’s Towing.
