Spectators, athletes and coaches cheered as John Bunn lit the torch and kicked off the 2019 Special Olympics Michigan Regional Basketball Tournament during its opening ceremony Friday night. The tournament, which has been sponsored by the Escanaba Kiwanis Club for 42 years, continues today with male and female athletes of various abilities, ages 16 and up, competing. Spectators are welcome and there is no admission cost to watch the event, which resumes today at 8:30 a.m. Closing ceremonies will begin around 2 p.m.
