Traffic shift planned in highway work zone
GLADSTONE — A traffic shift in the U.S. 2 and 41 work zone between Gladstone and Rapid River will begin Friday morning, according to a press release issued by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
That morning, westbound traffic on U.S. 2 will be shifted onto the new pavement in this area. At this time, the inside passing lanes will be closed in both directions so crews can re-install guardrails and remove the temporary crossover near the CN Railroad bridges. All lanes are expected to be open to traffic on Wednesday, Nov. 7. This work is weather-dependent.
In the press release, it was stated that eastbound lanes in this area are scheduled to be reconstructed in 2020.
Work is also continuing on the Escanaba River Bridge. A labor dispute earlier this year delayed work on several local road and bridge projects until late fall.
