Homes decked out for Halloween

Jordan Beck | Daily Press Schendell Legault (dressed as the “Headless Woman”) shows off the newest addition to her display of Halloween decorations — an animatronic Grim Reaper figure.

ESCANABA — Today is Halloween, and some local residents have been hard at work decorating their houses for the holiday.

Brett LaFave, who lives on the 600 block of South 14th Street in Escanaba, has put numerous handmade figures up outside his home. The figures are made with materials such as coat hangers and shrink wrap.

Before moving to his current house this summer, LaFave lived elsewhere in Escanaba. He said relocating has given his figures greater exposure.

“I guess I have more of … front-row seats to a busy intersection here,” he said. As of last week, LaFave said he has 24 of these figures.

LaFave said he appreciates the outlet for self-expression these figures give him.

“This is just my expression of creativity … it’s good to put in time for a great attraction,” he said.

Schendell Legault — who also lives on the 600 block of South 14th Street in Escanaba — has been getting her house ready for Halloween, as well. Her front yard has been made to look like a graveyard with decorations such as gravestones, cobwebs, skeletons, and a fog machine.

The newest addition to Legault’s display is an animatronic Grim Reaper figure, which has been placed next to her front door.
