ESCANABA — The victim of a fatal house fire in Escanaba has been identified.

Joseph P. Shea, 38, of Escanaba, died Tuesday evening as a result of a fire in his home, according to an obituary report.

The fire occurred at a two-story home located at 301 N. 12th St. Escanaba Public Safety officers were called to the home at 10:21 p.m. after a fire was reported there. When officers arrived, they observed a fire in the upstairs of the home.

They were also told a man was trapped upstairs in the area where the fire was located.

Officers said they conducted an interior attack on the blaze and the fire was suppressed.

Officers searched the upstairs of the home and discovered Shea, who had died in the fire.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to officers.
