Krusin Klassics Fun Run starts Friday
ESCANABA — Residents will have an opportunity to celebrate the ’60s during the 2018 Krusin Klassics Fun Run. This event, which will feature cars and trucks from 1993 or earlier and special-interest cars and trucks, will take place on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2.
“It’s our 33rd year, and (the theme) is ‘Born to be Wild, Sixties Style,'” Krusin Klassics Vice President Terrie Belongie said.
Registration for the Fun Run will be open at Building 5 on the U.P. State Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. There will be a fee for entry buttons and a fee for swapping spaces. (Children 12 and under will be admitted at no cost.)
The annual Fun Run parade will take place Friday at 7 p.m., starting at Ludington Park and continuing down Ludington Street. Lineup for the parade will start at 6 p.m. in Ludington Park.
The parade will end at the light at the intersection of Ludington Street and Stephenson Avenue. There, cars will split up and head in two different directions to the U.P. State Fairgrounds.
“Unfortunately … we have to put off the cruise (to Gladstone) one more year,” Belongie said. She noted that this is due to ongoing construction on the U.S. 2 and 41 bridge over the Escanaba River, and that Krusin Klassics hopes to return to the previous route in 2019.
After the parade, an event called the Fun Run Born Wild and Free Sixties Style Party will take place in the Ruth Butler Building at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.
“There’ll be a dance … ’til midnight,” Belongie said. The Cadillacs will perform at this party, which will be open to the public. Food vendors, games, and a 50/50 raffle will also be present at the party.
Saturday’s activities will kick off with a pancake breakfast, which will be served by the Ford River Lions Club from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Ruth Butler Building. Gates for the car show and swap meet will open shortly after this breakfast begins.
“The car show … starts at 8 a.m.,” Belongie said. Registration will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
In addition to the show itself, Fun Run attendees will be able to enjoy the Antique Village.
“The Antique Village will be open, with trolley rides to it,” Belongie said. This area will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At noon, a women’s luncheon will start.
“We have a women’s appreciation luncheon for the first 175 women,” Belongie said. This luncheon will be served through 1:30 p.m. in the Ruth Butler Building.
Food booths, displays, vendors, kids’ tractor pulls, and games will also be available at the Fun Run.
Trophy awards and participant prizes for the Fun Run will be awarded at 4:30 p.m. in the grandstands. Fourteen Krusin Klassics Car/Truck Trophy Picks and two Krusin Klassics Car/Truck Best of Shows will be picked by Krusin Klassics, one Chatfield Machine/NAPA Trophy Award will be awarded, and three Special Trophy Awards will be given out.
A raffle drawing will be held after the awards or by 6 p.m. in the grandstands.
“The raffle is (for) a 1968 Ford Mustang GT,” Belongie said. Raffle participants will also have a chance to win 25 other prizes.
Belongie said Krusin Klassics’ members are looking forward to this event.
“We’re celebrating Sixties style, so we’re looking to have a groovy time,” she said.
