Strangulation case set for November jury trial

ESCANABA — An Escanaba woman who was recently arrested on one count of strangulation and one count of domestic violence is scheduled to be tried by a jury.

During a pretrial conference hearing in Delta County Circuit Court on Monday, Amelia Ann Emery, 28, opted for a jury trial, which has been set for Nov. 14-16.

Emery was arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a female victim in Escanaba on Feb. 7. She is charged with one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder for allegedly assaulting the victim by strangulation, a 10-year felony.

She is also charged with one count of domestic violence, third offense, in connection with the same incident. This felony carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison.

Emery remains lodged in jail in lieu of 10 percent of a $35,000 bond. She has been ordered to have no contact with the victim.
