Marquette man killed in single vehicle crash

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Investigation continues into a one-car accident which claimed the life of a 21-year-old Marquette man in Marquette Township early Sunday morning, according to Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post.

Jacob Weslin was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Austin Mitchell, 21, of Ishpeming, who was driving on County Road 550, north of Sugar Loaf Mountain, at 4:50 a.m. when the car left the roadway, struck a power pole and rolled over into the ditch, said troopers.

Weslin was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries from the crash. Mitchell was transported by ambulance to U.P. Health Systems Marquette where he was treated for injuries and later released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, stated troopers. They were assisted at the scene by Marquette City Police, NMU Public Safety, Marquette Township Fire Department, and UP Health Systems Marquette Emergency Medical Services.
