Semi truck crashes into home
BARK RIVER TOWNSHIP — A semi truck driver was injured and a residence was damaged in a rollover crash on M-69 between 14th Rd and U.S. 2 and 41 in Bark River Township Thursday.
Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post responded to the crash at about 8:13 p.m. The semi truck, loaded with potatoes, was eastbound on M-69 when it failed to negotiate a turn. The truck left the roadway, struck several trees and an unoccupied house, and rolled over one and a half times before coming to rest on its roof, trapping the driver inside. Though initial reports suggested the possibility the truck was on fire, this was determined to not be the case.
The driver, 33-year-old Ontario, Canada, resident Gurdeep Sidhu, was removed from the truck by Escanaba Public Safety/Delta County Extrication. Valley Med Flight transported Sidhu by helicopter to U.P. Health System – Marquette, where he remains in serious condition.
The house struck by the semi received notable structural damage, according to troopers. Power lines were also damaged as a result of the crash.
Police believe speed was a significant factor in the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post were assisted at the scene by deputies from the counties of Delta and Menominee, Bark River and Ford River Volunteer Fire and Rescue Departments, Rampart EMS, Escanaba Public Safety/Delta County Extrication, UPPCO, and Valley Med Flight.
