ESCANABA — This Thursday, 10 lucky children will receive prizes and will have a chance to win a laptop in the Daily Press’ Golden Ticket contest. The finalists were chosen in a drawing this morning at the Daily Press.

The children who were selected as this year’s finalists are Ethan Poe, 7, of Rapid River, Austin Brown, 12, of Gladstone, Graison Pare, 10, of Gladtone, Joey Martinson, 11, of Gladstone, Jessica Wellman, 11, of Gladstone, John Paul Rivard, 9, of Cornell, Nolan Britton, 7, of Gladstone, Dave Rivard, 11, of Cornell, Zachary Boucher, 9, of Escanaba, and Karina Asselin, 11, of Escanaba.

To enter the Golden Ticket contest, entrants looked through issues of the Daily Press to find pictures of peppermints which contained the names of advertisers. Then, they wrote these names on their entry forms.

Daily Press Publisher Dan McDonald said the Golden Ticket contest was extremely popular this year.

“We’ve received hundreds of entries,” he said.

While the overall winner of the Golden Ticket contest will receive a laptop, all 10 finalists will be given gift bags filled with other prizes. The gift bags, along with a complimentary lunch, will be given to the finalists during an event at Escanaba’s Taco Bell at 2 p.m. Thursday.

According to McDonald, this year’s gift bags will include passes to Disney on Ice at the Resch Center in Green Bay, passes to the Gladstone Ski Hill, movie passes for Willow Creek Cinema 8, YMCA day passes, passes for free rounds of bowling at Bowl-A-Rama, board games, and more.

“Each of the 10 finalists will get a bag full of goodies and games … and all kinds of fun stuff,” he said.

In addition to these prizes, each bag will include a pack of M&Ms, which will be used to select the contest’s grand prize winner. Nine of the bags will contain plain M&Ms, but the 10th will contain peanut M&Ms.

“The one gift bag with the peanut (M&Ms) in it will win the laptop,” McDonald said.

McDonald thanked the sponsors that made this year’s Golden Ticket contest possible. Sponsors include Carpet and Drapery Shoppe, Carlyon Dentistry, Christian Park Village, Bishop Noa Home, Butch’s Carpet Center, Skradski Family Funeral Home, Pioneer TV & Appliance & Bedding Center, Culver’s, Healthway Nutrition Center, Crawford Funeral Home, U.P. Additionally, McDonald voiced his appreciation for the Daily Press readers who participated in the Golden Ticket contest.

“I’d also like to thank the people that have entered in the contest,” he said.
