MSU offers online gardening course

ESCANABA — The Foundations of Gardening is a 10-week online MSU Extension course that explores many aspects of gardening. Lessons include self-paced learning opportunities and live virtual Zoom lectures from experts in the field. Participants who meet the course requirements receive a certificate of completion for the Foundations of Gardening. This course is entirely virtual and is designed as a flipped classroom with many pre-class videos, readings, and activities for participants to complete on their own in preparation for the ‘live’ Zoom class.

Classes will be held on Thursday evenings, April 6 through June 15 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Participants are required to attend the live sessions. There is a fee to take part. Registration is required online at Foundations of Gardening – Foundations of Gardening (msu.edu) as soon as possible or by March 31 as this is a statewide course, and unfilled UP class seats will be filled by other MI locations.

Participants who are interested in becoming Extension Master Gardeners (EMG) and complete the Foundations of Gardening course will have completed the educational requirement for EMG certification. They will then need to complete an additional Volunteer Onboarding course (additional 6-8 hours) provided by Rebecca Krans, UP Extension Master Gardener Program coordinator. Times and dates to be announced. Onboarding will be a combination of face to face with online Zoom meetings.

For more information contact Rebecca Krans at kransr@msu.edu.
