Individuals sentenced in circuit court
ESCANABA — According to the Delta County prosecutor’s office, the following individuals were recently sentenced in Delta County Circuit Court on unrelated charges.
Ronald Allen Robinson, III, 28, of Escanaba was sentenced on Sept. 20 to 3 years to 20 years in prison after the entry of a guilty plea to one count of Delivery/Manufacture of Methamphetamine and 17 months to 5 years on one count of Attempted Delivery/Manufacture of Methamphetamine. The sentences will be served concurrently.
The charges stem from incidents in February of 2020. On Feb.13, 2020, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement South Team (UPSET) conducted an investigation in the city of Escanaba. Through that investigation, a purchase of approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine was made from Robinson at his residence located in the 300 block of S 9th Street. UPSET conducted another investigation on Feb. 26, 2020, and as part of their investigation, UPSET was able to purchase approximately 1.2 grams of methamphetamine from Robinson at his residence.
On Feb. 27, 2020, Robinson was interviewed in his apartment, where he admitted to selling small amounts of methamphetamine at time to support his habit and pay bills.
Ashley Marie Stodola, 29, of Escanaba, was sentenced on Sept. 20 to 18 months in prison following the entry of a guilty plea to Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer. Stodola was sentenced as a 2nd Habitual Felony Offender, enhancing her maximum sentence to one and a half times the maximum sentence. In this instance, Stodola faced a maximum sentence of 3 years.
On September 19, 2020, Escanaba Department of Public Safety Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive female on the 1400 block of 1st Avenue North. Upon arrival, officers located Stodola and several other individuals. Stodola was told to stay in the kitchen, but did not do so. Officers also observed her to be attempting to hide her hands in her purse. Officers were aware that Stodola was on parole, and subject to search of person and her property. Stodola refused allowing officers to search her. Officers went to contact her parole agent, when Stodola ran into the bathroom and attempted to slam the door in the face of one of the officers. The door was kicked open, and officers attempted to bring Stodola under control. She was eventually placed in handcuffs.
James Steven McClendon, 63, of Rock, was sentenced on Sept, 20, 2021, to 40 months to 15 years in prison following a plea to Operating While Intoxicated, 3rd Offense, Possession of Firearm by Felon, and Possession of a Loaded Firearm in or upon a Vehicle. McClendon was sentenced as a Fourth Habitual, subjecting him to a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
The charges stem from an incident on Nov. 5, 2020, when Michigan State Troopers and Delta County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch off of M-35. McLendon was located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, and appeared highly intoxicated. A search warrant for his blood was obtained, and subsequent test showed his blood alcohol content to be .282, nearly 3 1/2 times the legal limit.
A loaded shotgun was also found between the driver’s seat and the center console in McClendon’s vehicle.
McLendon was sentenced to prison on his 6th Operating While Intoxicated conviction. Both Chief Assistant Prosecutor Lauren Wickman and Judge John Economopoulos highlighted McLendon’s serious history with Operating While Intoxicated as part of the reasoning for the sentencing.
