Trappers workshop in Hermansville Saturday

HERMANSVILLE — U.P. Trappers of District 3 will hold the New Trapper’s Workshop Saturday. This “family orientated “event is free to the public. A lunch will be available and is being served by the friendly members of the William Anderson Sportsmen’s Club.

The agenda for the day is: 8 a.m. doors open, 9:30 a.m. weasel trapping demo by Jim Fornetti 10:30 a.m. “Trapping for Kids” demo by John Gunville, 11:30 a.m. Muskrat Colony Trap Building, 12:30 p.m. lunch break, 1:30 p.m. raffle and door prize drawings, 2:30 p.m. weasel box/trap and dog-proof coon traps given out, 3:30 p.m. coyote trapping demo by Randy Johnsen.

The workshop will be at the William Anderson Sportsmans Club, which is located near the Hermansville Pond west of town. Turn south at the blinking traffic light on US 2 onto County 388, after about a quarter mile go west on 1st Street all the way to the end.

“Many trappers I know come from the generation where the older veteran trappers would not share a thing about their sets, locations, lures, or anything. We had to learn it on our own. Things have sure changed as now the old-timers are more than willing to share information (especially for the beginning trappers.),” said Jim Fornetti, a longtime member of U.P. Trappers. “I guarantee that becoming a trapper makes one a better all-around outdoorsman — simply because a trapper must pay close attention to animal habits, weather, trails, and tracks. Thus; he must learn to pay attention and notice sign, location, habitat, etc. This habit of ‘noticing things’ will pay off – as it will spill over into fishing, hunting and other outdoor pursuits. Come to the workshop to learn a lot and enjoy the day.”
