Moore is supervisor for Hiawatha National Forest

GLADSTONE — Eastern Regional Forester Gina Owens has announced the selection of Mary Moore as the forest supervisor for the Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

“We are extremely pleased to have Mary assume a leadership position in the Eastern Region,” Owens said. “She brings a wealth of experience, skills, and knowledge to her new position and will provide valuable perspectives to our Regional Leadership Team.”

She was most recently the Jackson District Ranger in Jackson, WY, on the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Intermountain Region (R4), where she lives with her family. She has worked in the Intermountain (R2), Rocky Mountain (R4), and Pacific Southwest Regions (R5) with extensive experience in strengthening relationships amongst diverse interests and improving forest and watershed health.

Her early career was spent working as a Restoration Hydrologist for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit in South Lake Tahoe, where she completed several urban restoration projects largely focused on watershed management and forest health.

“I’m really excited about getting to know the employees, ecosystems, and communities of the Hiawatha National Forest,” said Ms. Moore.

Moore earned a B.A. in environmental science with a focus in ecology from the University of Virginia and an M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy Making with a focus in Hydrology from the Johns Hopkins University.

Moore will begin her new role at the Hiawatha National Forest’s headquarters office in Gladstone on June 20.
