World Diabetes Day is Nov. 14

ESCANABA — November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and World Diabetes Day takes place globally on Thursday, Nov. 14. UP Health System Home Care and Hospice is partnering with Lions Clubs of Michigan and LCIF to support their mission and to help reach the goal on World Diabetes Day of 1 million prediabetes and diabetes risk screenings.

Help us reach our goal by attending one of our three diabetes risk screenings listed below:

– Tuesday, Nov. 19, Escanaba Senior Center, 225 N. 21st St., 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

– Tuesday, Nov. 26, St. Thomas the Apostle Church 1820 9th Ave. N., 9 a.m. to noon

– Tuesday Nov. 26, Gladstone Senior Center 303 N. 8th St., 1 to 3 p.m.

The screening takes about 10 minutes and based on your results our Diabetes Paraprofessional and Certified Heath & Wellness Coach will provide you with guidance and suggestions. The screening and information is FREE of charge. You do not need to register, just choose your location and stop in during assigned location times.

There are over one million people in Michigan who suffer with diabetes and from the complications of diabetes, 77,000 are children. Additionally, 259,000 have diabetes and are unaware.
