United Way project helps foster closet

Jenny Tourangeau, co-director of UP Foster Closet of Delta County, accepts delivery of donated pajamas and diapers from the United Way of Delta County’s Day of Action project. For three weeks in June and July, community members were invited to donate new pajamas and diapers for local children in foster care. The drive collected 37 pairs of pajamas, eight packages of diapers and other needed items such as new socks, underwear and toothbrushes. The Escanaba Meijer store also donated a $100 gift card. The UP Foster Closet of Delta County, a United Way Partner Agency, already has begun distributing the items to local foster families. The United Way Day of Action is a worldwide day of service celebrated on the longest day of the year, June 21. The local United Way chose to kick off on that day and run a longer project.
