Man gets prison term for attempted assault

ESCANABA — An Escanaba teen was sentenced to prison in Delta County Circuit Court recently for an attempted assault in February.

Darrin William LeClaire, Jr., 18, of 1215 1st Ave. N., Escanaba, pleaded guilty to attempted assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation as a habitual offender.

He was sentenced to a minimum of 18 months to a maximum of seven years and six months in prison. He was given credit for 174 days already served.

According to the prosecutor’s office, on Feb. 19, 2019, Escanaba Public Safety officers responded to a report of domestic violence within the city of Escanaba. Officers made contact with the victim who reported that she had an argument with LeClaire.

She said to officers she was attempting to clean up items from the floor when LeClaire lifted his foot inches from her face and stated “I’m going to break your jaw” and made a forward motion towards her face.

LeClaire was ordered to pay $198 in fines and costs.
