Fly ball tournament this weekend
ESCANABA — Aug 3 and 4 will be the seventh annual Fly-Ball tournament held in Escanaba at the U.P. State Fairground’s Miracle of Life building Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teams, consisting of a minimum of four dogs and four humans, come from all over North America for this competition — from as far as California, Texas, Ottawa, etc. The 200-plus human team members stay and eat in Escanaba, and many stay over after the tournament to extend their vacation here. Fly-Ball is a very intense hurdle relay race for dogs. If you are a dog lover and have never seen this sport, the public is invited to drop by for an hour or two. Spectator admission is free. Every team donates dog-related items for a bucket-raffle to benefit the Delta Animal Shelter and the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter in Manistique.
